Portuguese copyright law
06-05-2008: The Copyright Act was adopted in 1985 (law-decree n.
63/85) and has undergone a number of amendments under subsequent
governments, in particular amendments made to harmonise with EU
legislation.
The Copyright Act was amendmended recently by the Law No. 16/2007, of
April 16 (Directive
2004/48/EC), concerning measures, procedures and remedies necessary
to ensure the enforcement of intellectual property rights (including
also industrial property rights).
Credit and finantial institutions new rules
11-04-2008: The Council of Ministers, approved a Decree-Law amending the Decree-Law No. 51/2007, of March 7, which regulates the trade practices of credit institutions (credit agreements for the purchase or construction of housing), the Decree-Law No. 430/91, of November 2, which regulates the collection of deposits, and Decree Law No. 171/2007, May 8, establishing the rules that must govern the rounding of the interest rate contracts, leasing, rental of long duration, factoring and others. This Decree-Law now approved ensure equivalence between the legal reference for the calculation of interest and enhance the transparency of banking practices in the remuneration of deposits, the harmonisation of procedures by all banking institutions in the treatment of deposits, and to that extent, facilitate comparability between the practices of competing institutions, and may even result in an increase in daily remuneration of the capital deposited.
